The trends witnessed in the country in the last decade is very sad, and it is time the youths go beyond bearing just the name as the leaders of tomorrow. They must stand up to the occasion and say ‘enough is enough’, be patriotic and be willing to make sacrifices so that Nigerian can come out of its present state. That is the advice of Professor Michael Kwanashie the Vice chancellor of Veritas University Abuja.

Speaking during an interview in his office, Prof Kwanashie after noting the key steps the present administration has to follow to bring about the desired change, stressed that the youth must be ready to pay the price for the change they desire.

“Having said all, I will tell the youth that they would have to be patient with the political class. They have to build up the courage to make government accountable. What we have witnessed in the last decade is a very sad development and the youths themselves are parts of the decay in the society.”
“Though they are called the leaders of tomorrow, but they are also being dragged into the contradictions in the society. They must learn to go beyond that, be honest in what they do, have the moral courage to say, listen, this country belongs to us and we are committed to this country; to be patriotic and willing to make the sacrifices required to make this country good.”
“If they just sit on the wheels and say, ‘well, this generation has done it, they have exploited us, so we have to exploit others’, if they maintain this ethical posture, then, we are not going to be different from the last generation. So, one is looking for a new courage. They must be able to speak the truth, they must be willing to hold government accountable and they must be willing to pay the price for change and if they are not willing to do it, then we will remain where we are.”
