There is a rising concern on the increased
burden, O'level holders have to bear to secure Admission into Tertiary
institution. The entire process has gradually become like the fairy furnace of
gold which unfortunately still leaves the gold unrefined. This bottleneck
created by the cumbersome process has left the students vulnerable. Hence,
going extra mile to make sure they are in school either by hook or crook.
Mr. Sani Ocadimeji Acting Vice Principal
and teacher of financial Accounting, Commerce and Marketing expressed great
concern on the student, speaking with Crystal news, he said “the government
needs to make sure that the admission process into tertiary institutions is
lesser than it is now. With the introduction of post UTME, the function of
Joint Matriculation Examination Board is no longer effective. It has become
expedient for the government to help students ease the process.”
Many students who are willing to further
beyond secondary education have this double task to face. They strive for money
to register for JAMB (UTME) and after passing, they go for Post UTME, which in
many cases demands money without the guarantee of securing the admission. The
disappointing thing is that some students have to go through this hurdle for
more than five years without success. A situation Mrs. Okoro Rahila, the Proprietress of Best Brain Academy, Bwari Abuja wants the government to
address. “I urge the government to sit on the admission issue and see how
students can gain admission easily into tertiary institutions”. She said.
The ado placed on admission process must be
checked. We need to define which, between the UTME and the post UTME is the
necessary exam for entering our tertiary institutions. The nation cannot afford
to continue to lose brilliant and intelligent students to the street life
because of the bottlenecked processes.
